Although Invisalign treatment has proven to be successful in almost every case we see, there are some patients who may not benefit from Invisalign as well as others. Each patient’s teeth and oral health histories are unique, which means each treatment plan varies greatly as well. If you are debating whether Invisalign is the right choice to straighten your smile, read into a few of our determining factors below!

Many patients come to us thinking that their smile is beyond repair. The thought, “is Invisalign right for me,” doesn’t even cross their minds. This is one instance where we are happy to prove them wrong! Invisalign is great for treating overbites, underbites, crossbites, large gaps between teeth and even overcrowding. Through our precise, individualized alignment plan, your teeth will be gently and gradually shifted into the correct position. There are some rare cases where misalignment is too severe to safely and efficiently treat a smile through Invisalign. This mainly occurs with teeth that are rotated more than 20 degrees, or if your alignment issues root from skeletal issues in your jaw.

The ideal age to begin Invisalign treatment ranges from older teenagers to adults. At this age your teeth should be fully grown in and your jaw bone and muscles have typically matured enough that any further development will not affect the straightening process. Because Invisalign’s clear aligners are removable at any time, it also takes a greater amount of dedication and responsibility to successfully complete the treatment than it does with traditional braces. For best results, we recommend keeping aligners in for 20 – 22 hours each day.

If you believe Invisalign is a good option for you, or would like to schedule a consultation to better determine the best treatment plan for your smile, call our front desk at 704-782-2630 or schedule an appointment with our easy online scheduler today! We are more than happy to assist you on your journey to become more confident in your smile.

Have you always wanted to improve your smile but dread the appearance of traditional metal braces? Invisalign treatment is a subtle alternative to traditional metal braces and other more obvious orthodontic devices. At Weddington Family Dentistry, Invisalign is our top choice when it comes to straightening your smile.

The true definition of Invisalign treatment, according to its creators, is “the process of wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth.” This means you get to avoid all of the shiny metal wires and brackets that are required to straighten your teeth with traditional braces. The process can even fix many of the same complex issues that would typically require rubber bands, power-chains, and other restrictive orthodontic accessories.

Invisalign treatment takes away the most annoying restrictions that come with traditional braces because it can be removed easily throughout the day as needed. Invisalign clear aligners are made from flexible plastic that is FDA approved and does not consist any harmful materials. The aligners are virtually invisible. Plus, since they are thin and fit snugly on top of your teeth, they are also fairly comfortable and do not cause the same pain or irritation to your mouth, cheeks and lips that traditional braces so often do.

The biggest benefit of choosing to straighten your teeth with Invisalign treatment is that everything is personalized just for you. Our dental experts will create a customized Invisalign treatment plan that matches up with your long term goals for your smile. Invisalign aligners are custom made to fit each unique smile and will be interchanged every few weeks, depending on the severity of your misalignment.

Although you will be coming in often to get your next round of aligners, there are no appointments needed for “repairs.” For traditional metal braces, you would need to make an appointment and come in quickly to fix a broken wire or bracket. Another advantage to Invisalign treatment is that you will remove your aligners to eat and drink, making it easier to maintain good oral hygiene.

Invisalign is a great option for those who want to live their life uninterrupted by traditional metal braces. You can continue your normal tasks and remove the clear aligners when needed. Over the course of your Invisalign journey, you will pick up updated aligners that will transition your crooked teeth into the straight smile you have always dreamed of.
