Keep Your Teeth Healthy

If you are missing teeth, you might think that it is no big deal. After all, you have 32 of them to start, so what is the big deal if one goes missing—especially if it’s a molar, and thus out of sight most of the time? As it turns out, there can be serious repercussions from having missing teeth that are not replaced by some type of orthodontic fabrication.

Here at Weddington Dentistry, we specialize in constructing dentures to replace missing teeth. Here are just a few reasons why dentures are better for your oral health than having missing teeth.

Dentures Help Keep the Jaw Bone Intact

How Dentures Can Improve Your Oral Health Over Having Missing Teeth When you lose a tooth, the jawbone where the tooth originally sat will eventually begin to erode away. This can lead to problems such as adjacent teeth moving around (causing an uneven bite pattern and excessive wear on the remaining teeth). Further, if left untreated long enough, the bone loss will eventually cause your face to have a “sunken” look, as there will be inadequate bone tissue to support the normal appearance of your face.

Dentures Are an Option, Even if You Only Have Some Missing Teeth

A fairly common misconception is that dentures are only available to people who are missing all of their teeth. This is not true: dentures can be fabricated to replace any number of missing teeth, even if you’re only missing a few of them. These are called “partial dentures” and work much the same way as traditional full dentures.

If you are considering dentures, remember that they can be a way to improve your oral health. At Weddington Dentistry, we are available to talk with you about your denture options and answer any questions you might have on the matter. Please feel free to call us, or send us an email, and we will be happy to set up a time to get together and talk. We look forward to helping you!
