When you come in to see us here at Weddington Dental, we will start you off with a thorough dental examination. This is important so we can see what state your teeth are currently in, and figure out what types of procedures are in your future. The more we learn during the dental examination, the more we can prepare for anything you may need to improve the state of your oral health. Here are some of the basics that you can expect when you come to us for a dental examination.
We Always Want Current X-rays
Having current x-rays is very important when you have a dental examination. We can take the old ones and the newer ones and compare them, allowing us to see things that may be changing or shifting around in your mouth. They also allow us to see areas within your teeth that may be starting to form cavities. The sooner we can get those filled, the better it is for your teeth!
We Also Perform Cleanings During Dental Examinations
During each dental examination, we also perform a thorough cleaning of your teeth. We want to make sure that all of the plaque buildup on your teeth has been removed, so that your enamel is safe and not being eaten away by the plaque. We clean each of your teeth and scrape any leftover plaque off of your teeth during this process, leaving you with a brighter, and healthier smile.
During a Dental Examination, We Also Look for Early Signs of Oral Cancer
One of the most important tasks we do during a dental examination, we also take a very good look at the tissues in and around your mouth. The earlier we can detect any small signs of oral cancer, the better. When oral cancer is caught early, it is nearly always treatable. That is why we make it a regular part of your exam.
